The Little River Trail is accessible for individuals of all fitness levels. It follows an old logging road along the Little River and has no end destination; therefore the group can determine when to turn around. We expect to hike about 2.5 miles out and back for approximately 3 to 4 hours at a leisurely pace. So rise early or make your plans to camp or lodge in the area on Friday night.
Dr. Robinson has 45 years experience in internal medicine. Forty years of his experience was in private practice in Cleveland and five years with the VA in Chattanooga. Although busy professionally, he found time to hike nearly 500 miles on the Appalachian Trail and is nearing completion of the Great Smoky Mountains 900 Miler Club. His love for hiking began as a member of the Boy Scouts in 1960.
Things to bring: Wear comfortable hiking shoes and layered clothing for possible variation in the weather. Bring a small backpack or bag with water, snacks and a light lunch. Some people prefer using hiking sticks or poles - that is your choice, but good running or hiking shoes are a must.
Parking: A parking permit is required to park anywhere in the Great Smoky Mountains
National Park. Interagency passes (senior access, etc..) are not accepted in lieu of a parking tag. Tags must be purchased before the date of the hike.
The trailhead is 4 miles from Sugarland so you may choose to car pool due to limited parking at the trailhead.
