Event: POEMS, PAINTINGS, and PARABLES

Date Every Wednesday, 5:30-6:15

April 10 – May 8

Location: Jackson Classroom

Registration: NO Cost: $0

Who: Broad Street Family & Friends

Instructor: Patty Puckett

During COVID, just to pass the time, Patty Puckett began researching the parables of Jesus that have inspired famous poems and paintings over the centuries, and she is excited to have an opportunity to share what she has learned with you.

Each class session will explore a poem and a painting that together expand our understanding and contemplation of these well-known Bible passages. For example, the first class features “The Parable of the Prodigal Son” and focuses on Elizabeth Bishop’s poem “The Prodigal” and Rembrandt’s masterpiece The Return of the Prodigal Son.

Come join us as we allow the poet’s pen and the painter’s brush to inspire us!

Patty Puckett, a retired teacher from CHS and Lee, holds a B.A. in English from Bryan College and a M.A. in English from UTC. Her favorite literary experiences include a Fulbright Scholarship to study Haiku Poetry in Japan and an Educators’ Summer Institute at The Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
